Since all my sails were old and worn out, and because my main sail blew out during delivery, new sails are immediately needed. I chose Hood Sails in Sausalito. Honestly, I have never shopped sails before this, and there are lots of sailmakers to choose from. Hood came highly recommended from some Sailing friends, mostly based on superb service. I obatined quotes from several lofts and settled on Hood.
After visiting the shop and meeting the owner and his wife, I could not be happier. Robin has been making sails since 1975. He opened the shop in Sausalito in 1983. His wife was making sails about 30 years ago for Skip Elliott- about this same time Skip made the original sails for Eliana. Together they bring decades of experience. Which is what I want.
I choose a fully battened mainsail, which necessitated the upgrade of my sail track. Here is Robin installing a Tides Marine sail track.
