While the Pacific Cup bills itself as the "Fun Race to Hawaii" it is still a race. Competitors are placed into groupings, called "divisions," based on how fast they are expected to sail (or their "ratings"). Here are the boats sailing in Division A, or the Coral Reef Sailing Apparel division. The same division as our Eliana.
GB has been participating in the Pacific Cup almost as long as it has been held. She has a lot of miles under her keel and the Cal 40 was designed for this race. Fast, experienced, and a strong crew. GB is a boat that is likely to place in the division.
We have our work cut out for us. The crew has been working hard to fully prepare the boat and practice to make sure no mistakes are made that slow the boat down. We have a crew that would make any other skipper envious of their experience and we know that Morgan 382 will sail fast for her rating. We may not be first across the finish line, but all we need to do is keep up with the fleet to visit the podium. Our best hope is for favorable conditions while we make the crossing -- wind speed not overpowering and sea swells that help propel us.
